Many seats in MCC Round 2 open up because:
- Some candidates resign their Round 1 seats (after getting state quota seats or other colleges).
- Some never join their allotted college.
- New seats and colleges may be added.
- Reserved category seats may get converted to the General category.
In short, Round 2 is a “reshuffle round” where careful planning can help you secure a better MBBS or BDS seat.
Why Round 2 of MCC Counselling is Important
- Resignations & Vacancies: Many top students leave their Round 1 seats for state quota or other options, creating fresh vacancies.
- State Counselling Overlap: When students get state seats, they vacate All India Quota (AIQ) seats, which then open up in Round 2.
- New/Converted Seats: Sometimes, new colleges get approval, or reserved seats remain unfilled and get converted, giving fresh opportunities.

Why Rank-Wise Strategy is Important
- Realistic Choices: Fill colleges according to your All India Rank (AIR). If your rank is 20,000, don’t apply only to the top 500 seats; you’ll risk getting nothing.
- Balanced List: Mix “dream” colleges with “realistic” and “safe” options.
- Category Benefits: Reserved category students (OBC/EWS/SC/ST) should check both All India Rank and their category rank; cut-offs differ.
Rank-Wise College Guide for MCC Round 2
Rank under 5,000: Top Institutes
- AIIMS & Central Universities: AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Bhopal, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, JIPMER Puducherry, BHU Varanasi.
- Top Govt Colleges in Metros: MAMC Delhi, VMMC Delhi, KGMU Lucknow, Grant Medical College Mumbai, Madras Medical College Chennai, SMS Jaipur, Bangalore Medical College.
- Private/Deemed: All deemed colleges (like KMC Manipal) are open, but most prefer government colleges at this rank.
Tip: Be aggressive. Fill all the top institutes. Round 2 can give you an upgrade if a seat opens.
Rank 5,000 – 15,000: Strong Chances in Reputed Colleges
- AIIMS (Newer Campuses): AIIMS Patna, Raebareli, Rishikesh, etc.
- Top State Govt Colleges: Stanley Medical College Chennai, Osmania Medical College Hyderabad, Government Medical College Kolkata, GMC Chandigarh, etc.
- Central Universities: JNMC AMU, IMS BHU (for BDS also).
- Deemed Universities (Backup): KMC Manipal, KMC Mangalore, JSS Mysore, Symbiosis Pune, Hamdard Delhi.
Tip: Focus on top state colleges + newer AIIMS. Keep a few deemed options as safety.
Rank 15,000 – 35,000: Mid-Tier Government & Top Private
- Government Colleges: GSVM Kanpur, GMC Nagpur, Patna Medical College, GMC Indore, Baroda MC, and new AIIMS (Bathinda, Deogarh).
- Deemed Universities: Symbiosis Pune, DY Patil Pune/Mumbai, JSS Mysore, Sri Ramachandra Chennai, KIIT Bhubaneswar, MGM Navi Mumbai.
Tip: Fill all government colleges (location doesn’t matter at this point). Keep reputed private colleges ready if the government option doesn’t come.
Rank 35,000 – 60,000: Limited Govt, Many Private Options
- Government Colleges: Rare chances in new or remote GMCs (Northeast, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh). Reserved category students (SC/ST) may still get MBBS here.
- Deemed Universities: Large list available- Pravara Loni, KS Hegde Mangalore, Datta Meghe Wardha, LNCT Bhopal, Symbiosis Pune, etc.
- BDS: Good government dental colleges may be available at these ranks.
Tip: Be flexible. Prefer a good private MBBS seat or BDS in a reputed government dental college.

Rank 60,000 – 90,000+: Focus on Private & BDS
- Government MBBS: Almost closed for the General category. SC/ST might get rare seats in the new AIIMS or remote GMCs.
- Deemed Universities: Still possible in many mid/low-tier colleges, though with high fees. Options like Santosh Ghaziabad, Subharti Meerut, Yenepoya Mangalore (minority), etc.
- BDS: Strong option at this rank, Government Dental Colleges and top private dental colleges are available.
Tip: Secure a deemed MBBS or BDS seat. Don’t leave Round 2 empty-handed.
Category-Wise Advice (General, OBC, EWS, SC, ST, PwD)
- OBC/EWS: Similar cut-offs to General in top colleges, but slightly better chances in mid-tier colleges. Always list OBC/EWS seats separately.
- SC/ST: Huge advantage. SC/ST seats can go to much lower scores (50k-90k AIR). Round 2 is your last big chance before those seats convert to General.
- PwD Candidates: Ensure certification is valid. PwD seats may have relaxed cut-offs.

Rules and Seat Allotment Process in Round 2
- No Free Exit: Once you are allotted a seat in Round 2, you cannot resign and go back to Round 1 seat or exit counselling without penalty.
- Fresh Choice Filling Required: Candidates must fill choices again in Round 2; Round 1 choices are not carried forward.
- Upgradation Possible: If you were allotted a seat in Round 1, you can still participate in Round 2 for a better option.
- Forfeiture of Security Deposit: If you do not join the allotted college in Round 2, your security deposit may be forfeited.
- Seat Matrix Changes: Vacant seats from Round 1 (due to resignations/non-joining) + newly added colleges/seats will be included.
- Category Conversion: Unfilled reserved seats (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) may get converted to General category in Round 2.
- Joining Deadline: Candidates allotted seats must report to their respective colleges within the given timeline, or the seat will be considered vacant for the next round.
How to Make the Most of Round 2
- Think Rank-Wise: Analyse your AIR (All India Rank) and category rank to shortlist realistic colleges.
- Don’t Chase Only Dreams: Include a mix of dream, realistic, and safe options while filling choices.
- Use Previous Year Data: Check Round 2 cutoffs from earlier years to estimate your chances better.
- Private & Deemed Colleges: If government seats look tough, be mentally prepared with a budget plan for private/deemed universities.
- Wide Choice Filling: Fill maximum possible colleges you’re eligible for to avoid missing a seat due to limited options.
- Follow the Rules Strictly: Missing deadlines or ignoring mandatory reporting can cost you your seat.
- Stay Updated: Regularly check the official MCC website for notices, seat matrix updates, and reporting schedules.
Round 2 is your “second chance”, use it wisely with a smart rank-wise and budget-conscious strategy.
If you are a top-ranker, use Round 2 to aim for dream colleges. If you are mid-rank, target every possible government option and have strong private backups. If you are in higher ranks, focus on deemed universities or BDS.
Above all, make your choices wisely, stay realistic, and keep calm.
Good luck with MCC NEET UG 2025 Round 2!
